Elk are magnificent creatures, if you’ve seen or heard one in the wild, you know exactly what I mean.  They live in very special places in our country—places worthy of protection today and for our future generations. When forest, field, and water are protected for these magnificent elk, those preservation and conservation efforts benefit not just the elk, but also other big game, wildlife, and their habitat.

RMEF: A mission of conservation; a history of success.

Since our founding in 1984, RMEF has conserved nearly 1 square mile a day not just for elk, but for big game, other wildlife and the creatures that live there. To date, RMEF has conserved or enhanced 9.1 million acres of America’s most vital elk habitat and completed more than 14,800 conservation, education and hunting heritage projects across 49 states and eight provinces. RMEF has also helped open or improve access to more than 1.6 million acres for the public to hunt, fish or otherwise enjoy. Finally, RMEF has helped restore long absent elk herds to their historic range including Wisconsin.

Wisconsin & RMEF:

We are fortunate to now have two growing wild populations of Elk in Wisconsin. By 2026, the combined herd will have grown to over 500 animals. WI RMEF has sponsored over 650 local initiatives, including several youth initiatives in Walworth County.
