In Walworth County, statistically 44% of families have experienced household insecurities at some point this past year! Blessing Boxes/Little Free Pantries have been created to help take away a little of the burden of these insecurities and are accessible 24 hours a day.
Local food pantries are only open at certain times, Blessing Boxes/LFP are a way for an emergent need to be filled. The contents of the boxes include food, snacks, hygiene products and household supplies. Stewards of the boxes check daily and add what is needed, while many in the community donate to the boxes at any time. The motto of these boxes is ‘Take what you need, leave what you can.’
We have seen a great deal of need, especially lately. 100% of the money raised will go into maintaining the contents of the Blessing Boxes as well as provide for individual family needs. In 2023, we kept our boxes full of necessities, offered several $50 gas cards, helped a teen boy recently diagnosed with juvenile diabetes obtain an assortment of healthy snacks, assisted 3 elderly couple fill their cupboards, as well as the grocery needs for 18 families, assisted with Blessings in a BackPack at local Elementary Schools, kept some Classroom Snack Bins full, provided 4 families with full holiday meals at Thanksgiving and 27 at Christmas (including a few gifts). It is a heartwarming and humbling adventure.
