Overdose Awareness Event

August 24, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

**MEMORIAL QUILT SUBMISSIONS DUE BY JULY 15**

An event to create community awareness related to substance use disorder and fatal overdoses is being planned in Burlington on Saturday, Aug. 24. It’s being held in conjunction with International Overdose Awareness Day, the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind.

Racine County Public Health Division will provide Narcan training, which can reverse an opioid overdose. A variety of organizations will be on hand to provide support, encouragement and resources for those in need and their loved ones. The event will include speakers and a ceremonial observance, along with music and refreshments.

“Our goal is to provide support to those in need and end the stigma surrounding addiction,” said Chloe Branen, the local organizer.

The Wisconsin Memorial Quilt will also be on exhibit, which visually shows the impact addiction has made on our state’s families and communities. The Megan Kelley Foundation is a nonprofit organization and requests only a $5 donation to submit a square to be included in the most recent quilt, which will be on display at the Burlington event. Quilt submission information is on the Eventbrite page and due by July 15.

The event will be held from 10am to noon at the Enlightened Living Center, 125 E. State St., and is free and open to the public. Quilt submission details, a full schedule and free tickets are available by registering online at Eventbrite by searching Burlington International Overdose Awareness Day.
