Eddie Murphy is set to appear on “Saturday Night Live” for the first time in 35 years as host. SNL made the announcement this week, along with some of the other hosts and musical acts they have slated for the upcoming 45th season. Stars such as Woody Harrelson, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift are set to appear on the show,  and Murphy will be hosting the December 21 season finale.

Murphy has stayed away from ever appearing as a guest or host since his departure from the show in 1984 when he left to pursue a very successful career in film.  Murphy appeared during the show’s 50th Anniversary Special, but drew lots of criticism for not appearing any memorable sketches or even delivering much of a speech.

Murphy has jumped back into the spotlight with a sequel to his famous movie, “Coming to America,” and he also recently filmed an episode of “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” with Jerry Seinfeld. He also announced that he would also return to the stage as a stand-up comedian.
