To kick off 2010, The Lakeland Animal Shelter is beginning our 90 in 90 Medical Expense Drive.

We are hoping to raise $90,000 in 90 days! It's a big undertaking, but we think it is possible.

Last year, our 60 in 60 Medical Expense Drive was a great success.

We where able to raise over $45,000.

However, 2009 proved to be a very difficult year for the homeless animals.

The Shelter is projecting to having spent over $120,000 on medical expenses in 2009.

This is a jump from the $88,000 we spent in 2008. Our shelter wants to be able to give every

animal every possible chance. This includes costly procedures and surgeries, medications,

vaccinations, and other care.

Without the support of our donor base this drive would not be possible. We are asking for your support. We know times are hard, they've been very hard on us as well. More animals coming in, donations are fewer, and less animals being adopted out. We have estimated that we will take in an additional 300 more animals than we did last year. Over 300 cats came in in September alone. If you are unable to contribute financially, please pass this email on to everyone you think could either donate or pass along as well.

The Lakeland Animal Shelter is currently at full capacity. This is very unusual for the months of December and January. If this is an indication of what's to come around spring time, it is going to be very difficult. Please consider making a contribution. If you donate $5 that's vaccinations for one cat,

$25 is a microchip, $40 is a spay or neuter surgery, $100 would cover two surgeries, and so on.

We have set up a website to take donations. It is very secure and easy to use.  You can also create

your own fundraising page to obtain donations from your friends, family, and co-workers.

Please visit:

Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra

Preview of orchestra concert March 20

Diverse American musical styles will be celebrated when the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra

presents its pops concert “American Songbook” on Saturday, March 20 in Lake Geneva.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Badger High School, 220 South St., Lake Geneva.

A special reception will follow the concert when people will have an opportunity to talk to orchestra

members, partake of gourmet desserts, listen to orchestra ensembles and bid on silent auction items.

Returning for a guest appearance to conduct the orchestra will be Andrew Dogan.

He served eight years as the orchestra music director and conductor until his resignation

at the end of the 2008-09 concert season.

“This one-of-a-kind musical journey is an evening not to be missed,” Dogan said.

The concert begins with “American Salute” by Morton Gould, a composition Dogan said is “energetic.”

He noted that in “Reflections on Rushmore” composer Michael Gilbertson “vividly captures

the spirit of one of America's greatest monuments in a sweeping orchestral suite.”

Baritone Evan Bravos joins the orchestra to perform the complete cycle of “Old American Songs”

by Aaron Copland. “The 10 songs highlight the diverse style and character of American song,

with many familiar melodies and distinctive musical styles,” Dogan said.

The concert also consists of classic Big Band tunes by Duke Ellington and “Mississippi Suite”

by Ferde Grofe. “This four-movement suite is a musical depiction of America's mightiest river,

ending in New Orleans with an unforgettable musical portrait of Mardi Gras,” Dogan said.

To close the concert, the orchestra will play “From Sea To Shining Sea.”

The arrangement by Robert Wendel takes the listener on a trip across the United States.

The silent auction during the reception will include such items as an adult one-year membership

to the Lake Geneva YMCA, one-week youth session at Geneva Lake Sailing School, yard fountain

from Henri Studio, performance by Quartet Con Brio and overnight stay at Bella Vista Suites.

Tickets cost $25 per person or $100 for five people. To order tickets or obtain more information,
