1.21.09 I pledge…

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

The great Abe Lincoln once said, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Although we cannot “control” events and circumstances around us, we can control our responses to them. This week, choose happiness. And  “be gentle with yourself.” Hope can live on today, tomorrow and next week if you let it.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher put together the Presidential Pledge video that is inspiring.
What the video and then if your up for it join the pledge…

What’s your pledge?
Mine is to be more loving and BE the difference that raises the bar in people’s consciousness.

To hope-

12.04.08 Complainers

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

I loved this article…wanted to share. Martha Beck is such a fantastic writer…and dare I mention she is Oprah’s life coach!

My best,
Katie

Dealing with complainers who resist your help!

By Martha Beck

(OPRAH.com) – Margaret’s twin girls were halfway through high school when she started thinking about returning to school herself. “I’ve always wanted to finish my degree,” she told me. “Maybe get a master’s, even. I’d like to teach.”

“Cool!” I said. Margaret had been complaining of boredom, and I knew she’d thrive in an academic environment.

“But,” she told me, her voice tightening, “there are problems. Jeff and the girls are used to me being home, cleaning, cooking…”

“Have you talked to them about it?”

12.3.08 My good lady

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I am talkin about death today. One subject that is not my favorite. I am a stand for LIFE–so death is not easy for me to accept and process.
My favorite person in the whole wide world passed away on Thanksgiving.  My Nane (Grandmother)

Grandma connections are so special. She was 90 years old but at the funeral you would think she died young due to the sadness that was heavily present in the room.

I am working on death’s subject—so to get some assistance in the process I went to a fellow coach, Colleen Shaw. She is wonderful with her words and is studying to be a hospice coach.
She told me that not many in the living really understand death’s process. As the powerful coach she is, she wants to incorporate coaching families, individuals around the process that occurring when a loved one is shifting into the next world.  (How fabulous is that)

Anyhow, she gave me a journaling assignment that I found very self -affirming. If you have a loved one who is going thru their process…or if you have lost someone special, I encourage you to take this on yourself.

10.20.08 What does O know for sure?

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I was at my sister’s this weekend watching my little Maddie and my Mom brought to my attention that some lady is going to “live by Oprah’s every word” for a whole year straight.
Like a science experiment–or like those documentaries on eating McDonalds for a whole year straight (I think the name was Super Size Me–Anyhow, I laughed and thought, wow, I think that will be interesting. Alot of what Oprah speaks about is most of the Coaching Concepts that I introduce to my clients. So I found this article she wrote on her website about the top 20 things Oprah knows for sure. I thought this would be a good way to kick off a new week. I agree with Oprah-I believe all those things find out how you can implement those things in your life now

10.09.08 An inspiring poem to share

Reaching for Someday
Laura Noelle Davis
Waking up this morning to Suze Orman’s voice is a bit scary. She is a powerful BEING-It got me thinking about my blog I wrote yesterday about our BELIEF about money and how it is not working in our economy. Fast forward a few hours and I am watching McCain speak with Sarah Palin in Waukesha and my A-HA moment today came from this poem I was reading as I was watching (well listening at this time) to McCain…

5 Things To Do With Your Money 10.08.08

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Good morning. What a warm up this week! I will take it any day of the week.
I re-connected with a friend of mine who shared with me that due to the economy- she lost ALOT of money due to a bank going under. I am talking 100,000 or more! I do admit, this is the first person I have come into personal contact with that is effected heavily by what is going on with Wall Street. It is time to get MONEY CONSCIOUS right now. We can’t afford to not be good with our money anymore. I love Suze Orman (From the Oprah show, & CNBC) The way she delivers her message is powerful and if you are concerned if your money is safe, then write down Suzie’s 5 things to do with your money. (She share these on Oprah last week)
1. MAKE SURE YOUR SAVINGS ARE SAFE
Even if your bank goes under, Suze says your money is safe if it is in an FDIC-insured bank. “It will take you two days and you’ll have your money back,” she says. To find out if your bank or account is FDIC insured, go to MyFDICInsurance.gov.

If your money is in a credit union, Suze says to make sure it is NCUA insured.

2. PAY DOWN YOUR CREDIT CARD DEBT
“It is possible and probable that many of the credit card companies out there are going to be shrinking, shrinking, shrinking your credit limits, and that hurts your credit score—so please start paying down your credit cards.”
She also encourages you to pay your bills on time. This is the time more than ever that you have to be on time!

3. Get health and term life insurance
Don’t cancel your policy to save a few bucks.
“Do you understand that the number one reason for bankruptcy in the United States today is bankruptcy over medical bills? Don’t ruin your life forever because you think you can go without health insurance,” she says.

For your life insurance policy, Suze says term life insurance—which is good for a specific period of time—is the way to go. “You are to stay away from whole life, universal and variable life insurance, do you hear me?” she says.

4. Continue making contributions to your retirement plan.
The markets go down, your monthly contributions buy more shares. The more shares you have, the more money you make in the long run. And when all of this is over and the market starts to go back up, guess what? You are going to be so happy you didn’t stop now.”

5. stop spending more than you can afford.
“The goal here is very simple. Wouldn’t you rather live a life where you feel free, easy, you don’t have to worry? Where you value who you are more than what you have? Where you value the quality of your life?” she says.

_______________________________

Suze’s presentation really spoke to me as I am in the market to buy a car. I wanted a car with leather seats, heated leather etc…Now, I am singing a different tune. It’s interesting that it happens to all of us. This isn’t just geared toward people who HAVE money. I consider myself middle class. I don’t have alot of money–but darn tootin, I was about to buy a car I can’t afford. What am I thinkin? We are so spoiled. We want more than we need. We are addicted to getting instant gratification. In today’s world who can blame us? We are living in an environment where we can feed our instant gratification need quickly by having cell phones, Internet and you can grocery shop and take care of all your banking needs in one trip. Does it surprise then when you want your ‘dream life” tomorrow. (For me, that dream car) Or by a click of the mouse you are swimming in money? It is what we are used too, we are dependent on seeing results of our requests quickly. If it doesn’t happen, we like to throw in the towel. We are in panic mode. That is what we do.
The worst thing you can do right now is PANIC. Don’t take all your money out of the bank and put it under your bed. Get educated, go to the website above and see if your money is insured, if it’s not, you know what needs to go on your priority list this week…Get it insured today! It’s time to shift our thinking. Let’s create our own economy!

10.06.08 Simply magical-I’m an Auntie

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Good Monday to you, I start the week of with a headache as I am going to weeeeen off coffee in the morning. My head is not liking that very much in the moment! However, I move on quickly because there are bigger and better things to focus my energy on…Like my little Niece that is so precious! I can’t leave her-she is in Chicago and I feel so far. It is interesting to see how a baby can change the dynamic of the family system.
My sister is doing such a good job. She has had minor setbacks but my sister is one of the strongest people I know. I learned so much being around and watching this little BEING grow. Her name is Madelyn by the way.
Children are so magical, they really are. I am curious as to what she is making up about the world as she grows. We all have our interpretations and stories about what the world looks like and how it should treat us. That is the greatness of kids, they don’t judge the world-they live moment to moment-There is no past or future and infants especially practice that way of BEING. Life is based on our perceptions-it creates our reality. You may be thinking, I wish I was a kid again…I am here to tell you that you can live out your magical child and keep your adult responsibilities in tact! Everything is possible. Go back to your magical child. Practice living in the moment. Go back to a place where things were easy, and there was no stress, or money, or news to watch-You just had to be you! What would that be like? To take off your image coat, get out of the ego and into your magical child. We all have our magical child inside of us. Some of us have buried it deep, and that is okay. Right now-I declare this is the time to search around for it! Let’s be magical. Life is alot more fulfilling and ‘easy-breezy- when you can tap into your magical child. More on this in the upcoming blogs. I have been chompin at teh bit to introduce you to her so here she is….

10.03.08 I run for your Mother, your sister, your wife…

I run for life

I am sitting on my couch watching Oprah (go figure) getting ready for my live broadcast with the Susan G. Komen Warriors at the Super Walmart in Delavan tomorrow. There are no accidents and the Oprah I decided to watch from DVR was the Breast Cancer show with Christina Applegate and Mary, the sister of Susan G. Komen!
Within the one hour of watching the tv show Oprah said that 20 woman will hear the words “you have breast cancer.”

Tears came to my eyes when Oprah asked the audience how many were breast cancer survivors and an overwhelming number raised their hands. Oprah was so stunned that she had the survivors stand up. When you see it in that ratio, it is terrifying.

Hearing the stories of women who have survived, who are at stage three, even women who are pregnant having the cancer. Simply eye opening.

Susan Komen’s surviving sister Mary told a remarkable story about her sister and how back in the 70’s there were no 800 numbers, there were no pink ribbons or support groups…Mary went on to say that people in her sister’s neighborhood would be scared of Susan-they thought she was contagious.
My point is that we have come a LONG way and we should all be proud of how much more awareness we as community members and surviors have created and it took us, as humans to come together and make a difference.
When Mary had her first “race for the cure” event, she was sure she would have to enroll cats and dogs to come out. People told her it would fail. The first race , 700 people came out to show their support. It’s amazing how we as human’s sell ourselves short. We are powerful, spiritual beings and we are in charge of our future and present moments. In one hour, by watching tv I learned so much more about Breast Cancer. If you are a woman reading this, I encourage you to take some time out of your schedule tomorrow (October 4th) and stop out by the Super Walmart in Delavan and join me to get more educated on your body and open up new possibilities regarding Mammograms or MRI’s.
Your worth it. So give yourself the gift of getting better educated. Also-if you want to come out and meet the Komen Warriors, the breast cancer surviviors-be at the Walmart between 9am-Noon.
We have come a long way and we have a long way to go. Choose life.
